This is the first visit after her discharge from the local community hospital, where an insulin regimen and blood glucose testing for type 2 diabetes mellitus was started. The disease was first diagnosed 10 years ago. T. S. is a 45 year old African-American employed as a broker for a real estate firm. T. S. states that her father is alive and in good health, and that her mother has type 2 diabetes and has had a below-the-knee amputation for complications of the disease.
