Have you ever wondered to yourself What is Nursing? Florence Nightingale was the first nursing scholar to describe the professional practice of nursing. Since that time nurse scholars have diligently worked to explain the discipline of nursing. The metaparadigm of nursing is representative of the beliefs and views regarding nursing knowledge (McEwen & Wills 2014). Concepts associated with this metaparadigm were used as the framework for the development of nursing theories.
It is essential to understand why the nursing profession has a theoretical framework. According to Yancy (2015) the study of nursing theory is essential to for the future of the nursing profession. The existence of a theoretical framework is one attribute that makes nursing a profession. Nursing theory assists with defining and constructing the framework upon which nursing practice is developed. As you read through your chapters consider the theory that best fits your nursing practice. You will need to reflect on your personal values and nursing practice. When reviewing the theories consider your personal values and how the values that you hold are reflected in the nursing theories that you find fit your own nursing practice. You will also need to reflect on the following questions:

-What theoretical concepts do you believe are most significant to your nursing practice?
-Identify the nursing theory that is implemented in your current clinical setting.
